Memories of David Hertz
A memorial service for David E. "Pete" Hertz Jr., 72, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Palouse Federated Church, Palouse, Wash., with Rev. Corey Laughary officiating. Pete passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at his Palouse home.
Pete was born on April 18, 1943, at Greenville, Miss., to David E. and Nellie (Murphy) Hertz Sr. He attended school at Greenville and in the Philippines and graduated from high school in Alexandria, La. Pete attended one year of college at Louisiana State University.
Pete married Martha Tanner on March 19, 1966, at Alexandria and the couple made their home at Baton Rouge, La., for a short time before moving to Palouse, Wash., in 1976. Pete started working at Washington State University as a truck driver for shipping and receiving until he retired in 2004.
Pete enjoyed camping, huckleberry picking, pheasant hunting with his sons and fishing. He also enjoyed tinkering with things and keeping his cars in good working condition. He also loved his animals.
Pete attended the Federated Church in Palouse, Wash., and was a former member of the Palouse Lions Club and the Moose Lodge in Louisiana.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Martha Hertz, Palouse, Wash.; two sons, David E Hertz III and his wife, Annette, Denver, Colo., and Dan Hertz and his friend Val Rodeen, Garfield, Wash. Pete is also survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Hertz.
